DuPage Medical Group and Sammy’s Bikes are about to finish the “Bike From the Pike”, a multi-day, ultra-distance cycling event dedicated to raising money for cancer research.
The event began September 26th at the base of Pike’s Peak in Colorado Springs. Cyclists, including DMG physicians Yousuf Sayeed, Nicholas Mataragas, and physician assistant Adam Mollsen, have ridden up to 1,000 miles over 10 days through Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Tomorrow, they will cross the finish line at Sammy’s Bike Shop in St. Charles.
The fundraiser was inspired by a 1,000-mile bike tour former DMG physician Bob Maganini and Sammy’s Bikes owner Sammy Radi rode in support of breast cancer and brain tumor research. A surgeon with expertise in treating breast cancer, Dr. Maganini completed the 2010 ride in honor of his brother Rich Maganini who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2009. “Bike From the Pike” is dedicated to Rich, who passed away in 2012.
The 2013 proceeds for this event will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fund in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The physicians from DMG are working toward a goal of promoting breast cancer awareness and providing greater access to services for patients who are afflicted. Donations can be made on the Making Strides website.
